This English‑taught Master's programme introduces you to the design and engineering of interactive digital media by combining technical depth with creative practice. You will work across computing and design disciplines to develop interactive systems, audiovisual applications, and sensor/actuator solutions. Coursework and projects emphasize web programming, audiovisual media design and implementation, and integration of interaction and usability methods so you can build engaging, user‑centred media environments.
The degree is delivered jointly by the Department of Computer Science and Languages and the Department of Electrical, Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences in Bernburg/Saale. That interdisciplinary structure gives you skills in handling large data sets and interactive media systems on the computing side, alongside applied knowledge of AR/VR worlds and hardware‑related topics from engineering. Elective modules let you specialise in areas such as virtual and augmented reality, game development, user experience design, and interactive installations. The programme balances theoretical foundations and scientific orientation with practice‑focused project work, preparing graduates for roles in the evolving media industry, management positions in digital media, or further research at doctoral level.
Requirements — what to expect and bring
Overview This Master's programme runs for three or four semesters, with the exact length determined by your prior knowledge and the content of your Bachelor's degree. The curriculum is built from modular units that emphasize different areas of the field and combine classroom-based theory with hands‑on practical work.
Key modules and learning outcomes Modules are organized by focus area so you can deepen knowledge in specific topics while maintaining a broad, coherent understanding of media engineering. Because each module blends theoretical foundations with applied exercises, you will strengthen your ability to translate concepts into practical solutions, develop methodological problem‑solving skills, and work on project‑based or laboratory assignments that mirror real‑world challenges. By the end of the programme you should be comfortable integrating theory and practice within your chosen specializations.
Support and flexibility The programme’s modular design and variable length offer flexibility to match your incoming qualifications and learning needs. If you have any questions about course content, study planning, or admission matters, the study advisor is available to assist you.
Requirements (concise)
Admission requirements
There are two entry routes depending on the length and subject of your Bachelor's degree. Applicants holding a qualified university Bachelor's degree with a standard period of study of at least six semesters (180 credits) will be admitted to the four-semester Master's track, which begins in the winter semester. This track requires a total of 120 credits to complete.
Applicants who hold a qualified university Bachelor's degree in computer science or a closely related field with a standard period of study of at least seven semesters (210 credits) may be admitted to a shortened three-semester Master's track. That accelerated route can be started in the summer semester and requires a total of 90 credits to complete.
