Overview This English-language Master’s programme prepares graduates to shape the future of industry and services by combining economic know-how with scientific and engineering fundamentals. Delivered in a modular format, the course begins with core modules in economics and engineering/science and then lets students specialise—either by pursuing engineering-oriented profiles with a commercial emphasis or economics-oriented profiles with a technical emphasis. The curriculum is designed to match labour-market demands while strengthening interdisciplinary thinking, social competence and intercultural skills.
Core elements Practical, applied learning is central: students engage with business models, technological innovations and market dynamics through case studies and real-world examples brought into the classroom by faculty who blend current industry practice with theory. The programme also offers strong networking opportunities through an international student body and the lively atmosphere of a university town, enabling collaborative projects and global contacts. It is organised as a double-degree track, awarding a Master of Science from Mittweida University of Applied Sciences and a second degree from a partner institution, and the entire course is taught in English.
Career outcomes Graduates are prepared for specialist and managerial roles across industry, business and administration and are equipped to work in international teams and across borders. Typical fields of employment include international management, innovation and product development, marketing management and research, logistics, risk management, project development and planning, construction, and organisational psychology.
Key facts & requirements
This two-year Master’s course is structured over four semesters and leads to 120 ECTS. The programme begins with a semester at a partner university to broaden foundational knowledge across two profile areas—an engineering & science track and an economics track—then moves into a specialised “Innovation & Business Expansion” pathway, followed by a research-and-practical semester and a final thesis semester.
In the second semester, taught at the University of Applied Sciences Mittweida, you focus on the Innovation & Business Expansion specialisation through four core modules: International Management; Risk Management and Venture Capital Enterprise; Business Expansion; and Innovation Management. The third semester centers on an independent research project and an industry internship; both the project semester and the placement may be completed at Mittweida or at a partner university, and the internship can be undertaken anywhere in the world. The fourth semester is dedicated to preparing and defending a Master’s thesis that is expected to make an academic contribution in your chosen field.
Learning outcomes include the ability to integrate engineering/scientific and economic perspectives for strategic decision-making, manage international business activities, evaluate and mitigate risks including venture capital considerations, design and implement business expansion strategies, and lead innovation processes. The programme culminates in a research-based thesis written and defended in English; for double-degree arrangements the thesis defence takes place at both degree-granting institutions.
