Overview This English-language Master's program trains specialists who design and develop usable interactive products for everyday life. It takes an interdisciplinary approach that brings together Computer Science, Design and Usability Research so you learn to create systems that are both technically sound and human-centered.
What you'll study You will gain contemporary knowledge in interaction design, human factors and ergonomics, and multimodal and multisensory human–computer interaction. Practical topics include mobile prototyping and interface solutions for augmented and virtual reality, while coursework also covers design strategy and management and critical reflection on user experience. Emphasis is placed on scientific thinking and writing so you can analyse problems rigorously and communicate results clearly.
Why this program is relevant for international students The degree prepares you to contribute to or lead complex, interdisciplinary projects in global teams and to take on roles in the international media and technology sectors. Instruction in English and a curriculum that blends theory with applied methods equip you with transferable skills—prototyping, research methods, design strategy and project leadership—that are in demand across UX, product design, and digital innovation fields.
Key facts / requirements
This program combines human–computer interaction (HCI) research methods with hands‑on design and implementation skills to prepare you for advanced UX roles. Core classroom and practical modules cover interaction design, multimodal and natural user interfaces, mobile prototyping, and augmented/virtual reality, while project courses and electives let you apply these techniques to real‑world problems. The degree concludes with an independent Master’s thesis supported by a thesis seminar.
Learning outcomes include the ability to design, prototype and evaluate interactive systems across devices and modalities; to conduct HCI research using appropriate methods; to create AR/VR and mobile UX solutions; and to manage UX workstreams using agile practices and strategic design management. Critical reflection on user experience practice and the capacity to carry out a substantial, research‑led master’s project are also emphasized.
The program can be completed full‑time in three semesters or part‑time over six semesters. Electives allow specialization, and the Master’s thesis carries 28 ECTS (plus a 2 ECTS thesis seminar). For official regulations and detailed legal information, please consult the statutes published by the university’s legal department.

This master’s programme requires a clear combination of academic background, relevant skills and practical experience. You must hold a qualifying Bachelor’s degree (see ECTS rules below) and demonstrate both programming and design abilities. The programme’s study and examination regulations (Studien- und Prüfungsordnung, SPO) describe the qualification and assessment procedures in detail—Article Three covers entry qualifications and Article Four explains the assessment test (focusing on programming interactive systems, interaction design and practical experience). You can submit provisional certificates and transcripts with your application, but the final degree certificate must be presented when you register/enrol if admitted.
The university can only make a legally binding decision after it has reviewed your full application documents.
