Esslingen’s MBA in International Industrial Management is a practice-oriented, English-taught program built around industry strengths in engineering and management. The program emphasizes real-world learning: company visits, industry case studies, team projects with firms, a mandatory corporate project and a master’s thesis carried out in an industrial setting. Students benefit from a high professor-to-student ratio, strong ties to local and global employers (examples include Bosch, EY, Festo, Kärcher, HP, IBM, Mercedes‑Benz, Porsche and Siemens), and location in one of Europe’s most advanced industrial regions. The MBA is internationally recognised and ranked among the top European programmes in industrial management. Career outcomes are strong: nearly 30% of graduates take roles in German companies within one month after graduation, 60% within 12 months (rising to 90% when including international companies). The cohort is highly international—over 90% of students are from abroad, with classes typically representing 12 or more countries in a group of about 25—supported by an active global alumni network.
Key requirements / applicant profile
Overview
This MBA combines management theory with hands‑on practice to prepare you for leadership roles in industrial and technology‑intensive organisations. The curriculum covers industrial management, entrepreneurship and innovation, and global marketing and business strategy, while placing strong emphasis on sustainability, supply‑chain design and technology‑driven digitalisation (including smart manufacturing). Core topics such as organisational behaviour, leadership, financial and business planning are integrated throughout, and students engage with current debates in business, science and society.
Structure and study experience
The programme begins in September with an orientation week, German language classes and cultural activities to help you settle in. During the first two semesters you take on‑campus courses that combine lectures with practical project work and company visits. Typical first‑semester modules include Finance; Organisational Behaviour and Strategy; Operations; Data Analytics and Information Management; and Marketing, Sales & Economics. In the second semester you study Entrepreneurial Management and International Management and choose a specialisation — Digital Transformation, General Management, or Sustainable Production & Technology. The third semester is dedicated to an industry‑based master’s thesis and corporate report: students source their own placements from local companies, build networks through company visits and take preparatory courses before starting their thesis. Supplemental offerings include further German courses to boost employability and personal coaching seminars focused on business etiquette.
