This master’s is built around flexibility: there are no mandatory modules, only electives. You select six modules from a catalogue of English- and German-taught options; each module is worth 10 ECTS. At least three of those six must be core modules, while the remaining up to three may be chosen from supplementary offerings. This lets you tailor the programme to gaps in your background or to your career focus.
The programme is completed with a 30 ECTS master’s thesis. In addition, an optional 30 ECTS mobility module is available for students who wish to add an extended period of study or external learning to their degree. Taken together, the core structure amounts to 90 ECTS (six modules + thesis); including the optional mobility module brings the total to 120 ECTS. For students in the double degree track with UNIVPM, the summer semester is completed at UNIVPM.
Admission/Programme requirements (summary)
Note for international applicants: because the module catalogue contains both English- and German-taught courses, non-German speakers can construct a programme from the English-taught modules or combine languages depending on their skills.
This master’s curriculum combines technical finance, banking practice and regulatory topics to prepare students for roles across financial institutions and related sectors. Core coursework emphasizes accounting, asset and treasury management, banking operations and international finance, while quantitative and risk-transfer subjects (e.g., Quantitative Methods in Finance, Reinsurance) supply analytical tools. The program uses both English- and German-taught modules (each module is valued at 10 ECTS), so international students should be prepared for a bilingual academic environment.
Key modules include Financial and Managerial Accounting; Asset Management; Cash and Treasury Management; Commercial Bank Management; International Finance; International and Monetary Economics; and Quantitative Methods in Finance. Specialized banking and regulatory topics are covered by Operatives Bankgeschäft and Prüfungswesen und Bankenaufsicht, and corporate transactions are addressed in Mergers & Acquisitions: quantitative und qualitative Methoden. Supplementary modules broaden perspectives with intercultural management, ethics, marketing and organizational behaviour, and selected German-taught courses on compliance and strategic HR. Graduates will be able to analyse financial statements, apply quantitative techniques to investment and risk problems, manage liquidity and treasury functions, assess banking business models and regulatory frameworks, and evaluate M&A from both quantitative and qualitative viewpoints.
Practical notes for applicants
Core modules (each 10 ECTS)
Supplementary modules (each 10 ECTS)
This master’s programme requires a relevant undergraduate degree and evidence of both professional and personal suitability. Applicants should hold a bachelor’s-level qualification in economics, business, management or finance worth 210 ECTS from a university, university of applied sciences, or comparable higher-education institution; the prior programme must have included at least six semesters of theoretical study. The admissions committee also expects demonstrable professional competence (relevant knowledge and skills) and a clear personal interest in the chosen subject — personal suitability is decided by the admissions committee and may involve a selective interview.
If you have slightly fewer credits (at least 180 but less than 210 ECTS), conditional admission may be possible. The examination board can admit you on conditions that you make up the missing credit or competencies. These conditions will be communicated in writing before your studies begin and can be fulfilled either before or during the master’s programme, but must be met by the time you register for the master’s degree. Applicants with an equivalent professional degree from another field may also apply; the examination board decides on equivalence.

Graduates are prepared for specialist and managerial roles in the financial sector, including commercial and investment banking, asset and treasury management, risk and compliance functions, insurance/reinsurance, and corporate finance. The programme’s core modules (e.g., Asset Management, International Finance, Cash and Treasury Management) equip students with quantitative and applied skills sought by banks, asset managers, corporate treasuries and insurance firms.
The international orientation and double-degree possibilities enhance employability for cross-border and multinational roles, consulting, and positions requiring strong intercultural competence. Alumni can also pursue research or PhD paths in finance and economics depending on prior qualifications and career goals.
