Overview This MSc in International Management prepares you for a global business career by combining core business administration knowledge with a strong focus on sustainability and digitalisation. The programme develops management and leadership capabilities while encouraging entrepreneurial thinking and responsible decision-making, so you can navigate complex international business environments and enhance your career prospects.
Learning approach Teaching is highly practice-oriented and tailored to each student rather than following a one-size-fits-all curriculum. You will learn through real-world case studies, applied projects, business simulations and internships, and benefit from close links to industry for networking and professional exposure. The programme places particular emphasis on leadership development and transferable practical skills, not just theory.
Operations mindset and location Building on the university’s logistics background, the programme instils an “operations mindset”: a mix of academic rigor and hands-on, data-driven problem solving that balances attention to detail with strategic perspective. All courses are delivered in English on campus in Hamburg’s HafenCity district. Studying in Germany gives you access to a respected education system, a safe environment, and a strong economy; graduates also have the legal right to remain and work in Germany for a certain period to seek employment.

This programme requires a recognised Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) and proof of English language proficiency. International applicants should ensure their undergraduate qualification is recognised by the university and be ready to provide documentation of their language level when applying.
Applicants with degrees in business or economics are the ideal fit, but the programme also accepts graduates from related analytical fields such as industrial engineering, business informatics, or mathematics—provided the prior degree contains at least four business-related courses. If your background lacks some business coursework, there are options to make up those deficiencies before or during the programme.
Credit requirements differ by study track: the standard track expects a Bachelor’s with 180 ECTS, while the fast track requires 210 ECTS. Applicants to the fast and part-time tracks must have completed at least one academic term abroad or an internship abroad as part of their undergraduate degree. If you have not yet received your final degree certificate, you may submit your transcript of records to apply.

Graduates are prepared for international management careers in multinational companies, consulting, operations and logistics, and sustainability- or digitally-focused business roles. The programme emphasises practical skills (case studies, simulations, internships) and leadership development, making alumni attractive to employers seeking candidates who can combine strategic thinking with data-driven operational execution.
Studying in Germany and in Hamburg specifically gives graduates an advantage in the German labour market, including a legal right to stay and seek work after graduation. Many students leverage the integrated internship, KLU’s industry connections and the international semester abroad to build networks and transition directly into roles in their chosen sectors or pursue entrepreneurial opportunities.
