This Master’s degree is aimed at engineering and natural science graduates who want to move into management roles. It places you squarely at the intersection of technology and business, building on your technical bachelor’s background to develop competencies in management, law, economics and core business disciplines. The curriculum emphasizes rigorous, research-based thinking so you gain a solid grounding in management theory and research methods alongside applied managerial skills.
Coursework and teaching are informed by current research and contemporary industry practice. Teaching formats include lectures, regular tutorials and small-group seminars to foster both broad understanding and hands-on discussion. You can tailor your studies through elective modules that reflect your interests, and there is the opportunity to spend a semester abroad to broaden your international experience.
Two elective tracks are offered exclusively at the Heilbronn campus: Management of Family Businesses and Management of Digital Transformation. These specialisations focus respectively on the governance and operational challenges of family-led firms and on managing organisational change driven by digitalisation. Heilbronn and its surrounding region—home to many entrepreneurial companies and hidden champions, many family-run—provide an excellent environment for learning, networking and applied projects with local industry.
Requirements
Overview
The programme begins with two semesters of core training that build a solid foundation in business management, economics and law. During this phase students complete 42 ECTS in management, plus 6 ECTS in economics and 6 ECTS in law. An additional 6 ECTS are dedicated to entrepreneurship and strategic & international management, ensuring you gain both practical managerial tools and a broader perspective on global strategy and new venture creation.
In the third semester you personalise your studies (30 ECTS) through electives, project-based study or an international exchange, and the fourth semester is reserved for an independent, research-based Master’s thesis (30 ECTS). The curriculum balances theory and application, with options to pursue practice-oriented projects or deepen expertise in specialist management areas offered in Heilbronn.
Key modules and learning outcomes
By the end of the programme you will be able to apply core management frameworks in business contexts, interpret economic and legal constraints on firms, design and implement strategies (including digital transformation initiatives), and conduct independent, evidence‑based research culminating in a master's thesis.
