This English-taught MA trains you to extract actionable insight from large and complex data sets and to turn those insights into business value. You will learn a blend of data science, analytics and programming techniques alongside professional skills that help you communicate results, design solutions and implement intelligence systems for organisations. The programme places strong emphasis on hands-on, practice-oriented learning through projects and applied coursework.
The course sequence is structured so that the first two semesters focus on implementing methods across business intelligence, business analytics and data science while developing creative problem-solving abilities. The final (third) semester is devoted to completing a master’s thesis and presenting your work in a colloquium. A modular course overview for upcoming semesters is published on the university website. Elective modules let you tailor the curriculum to your interests, and German language classes plus project work are available if you want to improve language skills and local integration.
Key facts and requirements
Representative modules (examples)
This 90 ECTS master’s programme is delivered in a modular format and is designed to deepen students’ professional expertise in business intelligence and data analytics. You can complete the degree full time in three semesters or part time in five semesters. The curriculum combines required core modules with elective options that let you tailor your studies to specific interests; elective offerings may change from semester to semester but are aligned with the programme’s core competencies.
Core winter-semester modules focus on technical foundations and quantitative methods: Computer Sciences, Machine Learning, Controlling and a project module (Project T). In the summer semester, the compulsory modules shift toward data-focused and applied skills: Data Management, Introduction to Data Sciences, Communication & Culture, Business Analytics and a follow-up project module (Project B). Together, these courses aim to equip you with the ability to handle and analyse data, build and evaluate predictive models, apply analytics in business contexts, and carry out collaborative, practice-oriented projects.
A set of elective compulsory modules (each 5 ECTS) lets you specialise further. Options include Sustainable Innovation Management, Marketing, ERP Systems, Digitalisation and Automation, Quality Management and Advanced Project Management. German language classes are offered at several levels; after placement in small groups, you can attend courses that match your level. Language participation is optional but strongly recommended to improve career prospects in Germany. For full module descriptions and up-to-date offerings, refer to the module handbook.
